XL Axiata Employees Distributes Education Donations in Aceh Through The “Bersama Bangun Negeri” Program

Aceh Besar, September 18th, 2020. Through the XL Axiata Bersama Bangun Negeri (Berbagi) program, employees of PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) have once again distributed donations for an educational cause to a school and orphanage in Indonesia’s westernmost province, Aceh. Donations were distributed to schools, namely, SMA Negeri 1 Suka Makmur at the Suka Makmur District, Aceh Besar Region, and the Aceh Islamic Foundation Orphanage at Seutui Village, Baiturrahman District, Banda Aceh City. Attending the social activity which took place on Friday (18/9) included the Territory Sales Manager of XL Axiata Banda Aceh area, M. Dimas Alfajri.

Chief Human Capital Officer XL Axiata, Rudy Afandi said. “Working in a technology-based company requires XL Axiata employees to have the knowledge, understanding, and expertise in the field of digital technology that can be shared with students because it is very beneficial for them. For example, how to use social media positively, how to use the internet to support their achievements, to make good photos with ordinary smartphones, and much more. That is why we organized this “Berbagi” program throughout the year.”

According to Rudy, this routine program is carried out every year in various regions in Indonesia is a form of concern for XL Axiata employees for the advancement of the world of education. In this program, employees have the opportunity to be actively involved in transferring their knowledge and expertise. Even during this pandemic, XL Axiata is still trying to implement this social program with a number of adjustments according to health protocols. With this pandemic, the company have been looking for alternative ways for this program to run smoothly, considering the benefits it could provide to students in the target schools.

Meanwhile, Group Head of XL Axiata West Region, Desy Sari Dewi, who leads the work area in Sumatra, stated that Aceh Province is one of the regions with fairly high growth in data usage in Sumatra. The people of Aceh, including the youth and students, have a great interest in internet and digital services. For this reason, XL Axiata also often holds events aimed at facilitating the younger generation to channel their interest in digital technology.

“Events like these are highly encouraged and also required in Aceh, where the youth yearn for the skills to utilize digital technology. We hope that the knowledge shared by XL Axiata employees will greatly assist students to make more use of digital means positively and productively, while at the same time avoiding negative impacts,” Desy added to her statement.

Due to this pandemic, activities for knowledge and various skill exchange needed by students cannot be done directly. The materials that will be presented to SMA Negeri 1 Suka Makmur students are related to a number of skills or expertise needed by students in the digital era that will be of use to them today or in the future. For this reason, this agenda is carried out via online through video conference. Some of the tools that will be provided by XL Axiata employees include public speaking, healthy internet, easy ways to create a website, how to make good photo content on social media, and the internet of things (IoT).

In addition to learning materials, other activities include the distribution of data quota donations for students and the Quota Donation Movement (GDK) router device to be installed at SMA Negeri 1 Suka Makmur. By supporting teaching and learning activities, these devices can be used by students and teachers to access the internet. This donation is in accordance with the needs of students who currently have to take part in long-distance learning using the internet.

There are 250 internet packages being distributed, each provided with a SIM card with a quota of 30GB, applicable for two months after activation. Meanwhile, routers are given a free quota of 20GB every month for 1 year. In addition, one of the improvements accommodated to the school facilities is a basketball court. SMA Negeri 1 Suka Makmur has 200 students and since the pandemic broke out, they are unable to proceed with regular studies. 

Meanwhile, in the Foundation of Aceh Islamic Orphanages at Seutui Village, Baiturrahman District, Banda Aceh City, donations are given in the form of an XL GDK router with a free quota of 20 GB every month for 1 year to access the internet for foster children. In addition, the orphanage that accommodates 67 children also received a donation of Rp 20 million. All donations come from employees’ zakat through Majelis Ta’lim XL Axiata and corporate social programs.

Since May 2017, XL Axiata’s 4G data network has been present in Aceh Province and now is also accessible in 23 cities/districts. Currently, XL Axiata’s network infrastructure in all provinces at the western tip of the archipelago is supported by more than 1,700 BTS, those including around 1,400 3G - 4G BTS. Throughout the Sumatran islands, 4G services are available in 156 cities/regencies and will continue to be developed this year.
