According to Dodik, enhancing the network extends beyond the stadium where matches take place to cover Surabaya and its surrounding areas. While network reinforcement is part of XL Axiata's ongoing program across all operational regions, it's crucial to ensure the network can handle potential increases in traffic.
Mochamad Irwan Harahap, XL Axiata East Region's Head of Network Operations, added that XL Axiata is boosting capacity by doubling the daily available capacity. Specifically at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), XL Axiata has installed additional mobile base transceiver stations (MBTS) in preparation for increased traffic, given that it serves as the home venue for the Indonesian National Team. The AFF U-19 Cup will feature participation from 12 Southeast Asian countries and will be hosted at two venues: Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT) and Gelora 10 November Stadium in Tambaksari.
Currently, the special 4G network in the city of Surabaya is supported by around 1,200 4G BTS, and covering most of its 31 sub-districts. As of the first half of 2024, XL Axiata has surpassed 1 million customers in Surabaya and continues to experience dynamic growth.
To maintain network quality in this region, XL Axiata remains committed to various initiatives including network expansion, capacity upgrades, throughput enhancements, and latency improvements along key routes. Surabaya, known as the City of Heroes, has once again been chosen to host the 2024 AFF U-19 Cup tournament from July 17 to July 29, 2024. The tournament will take place across two stadiums: Gelora Bung Tomo (GBT) and Gelora 10 November. The 2024 AFF U-19 Cup features participation from 12 countries divided into three groups. Alongside the Indonesian National Team, other participants include Timor Leste, Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Australia, as well as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam.
