Medan, 24 July 2023. Employees of PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) distributed donations for victims of a fire that burned down 9 houses resulting in 11 families or 47 people losing belongings and shelters in Belawan I Urban Village, Medan Belawan District, Medan City, North Sumatra. The donation was given in the form of basic daily necessities such as rice, cooking oil, soy sauce and instant noodles. Symbolically, Regional Corporate Communication of XL Axiata West Region, Aldi Desmet handed over the donation directly to the Coordinator of Belawan I Fire Command Post, Badlun Alkholidi and a number of local community leaders in Belawan, Friday (21/7).
Group Head of XL Axiata West Region, Desy Sari Dewi said, "We are sorry for the fire disaster that burned down 9 houses causing 11 families or 47 people to lose their belongings in Belawan. This condition made XL Axiata employees together with Majelis Ta'lim of employees (MTXL) collect and distribute donations to ease the burden of fire victims. This assistance is a form of our concern to help people who are currently affected by the fires that hit residential areas in Belawan. We hope that the assistance provided can ease the burden on the fire victims."
Desy added that the fire that hit residential areas in Belawan also burned down the house of the parents of an employee who works at Grha XL Medan. At the time of the incident, his parents' house also caught fire and burned the belongings that had not been saved. This led XL Axiata employees in Medan to help together by channelling donations.
Meanwhile, the donation from MTXL Axiata is one part of the MTXL Axiata Disaster Response Program which aims to help Indonesian people in need of assistance. The aid funds distributed by this party are the result of the collection of XL Axiata employees' zakat funds which are routinely collected every month and managed by Majelis Ta'lim of XL Axiata.
Coordinator of the Belawan I Fire Command Post, Badlun Alkholidi expressed his gratitude for the donation. "Hopefully the employees will be blessed with blessings from their sustenance and the XL Axiata will be more advanced and prosper."
A fire that hit a residential area in Lorong Stasiun Street, Neighbourhoods 13 and 14, Belawan I Urban Village, Medan Belawan District, Medan City, Friday (14/7) early morning burned down around 9 houses inhabited by 11 families and 47 people affected by the fire disaster. The fire has destroyed their houses and belongings. And at the moment, there are some residents who have to take refuge in the homes of relatives, in mosques and several other places because they have not been able to rebuild their homes.
