Jakarta, April 14, 2022. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata)’s Management again doing donation by giving away laptops to be distributed to Islamic boarding schools in Karawang, West Java. The Donations is a manifestation of the Digital Village Program to encourage digitalization, including increasing digital literacy, among rural communities. The Islamic boarding school to receive the donation is expected to become pioneer for digitalization in rural areas. In addition, in order to carry out social actions which is coinciding with the Holy Month of Ramadan, XL Axiata also distributed hundreds of food packages to the Tahfidz Qur'an Al-Muqqodam Islamic Boarding School, Karawang, West Java. President Director & CEO of XL Axiata, Dian Siswarini with Group Head of XL Axiata Region Jabodetabek, Rd. Sofia Purbayanti and Group Head of Customer Value & Experience Management, Mohamed Moharram, symbolically handed over a laptop donation in Jakarta, Wednesday (13/4).
"The infrastructure of XL Axiata's 4G data network continues to expand throughout Indonesia, some of which also reach rural regions," said Rd. Sofia Purbayanti, Head of XL Axiata Group in Jabodetabek. Along with this, we expect to be able to help rural communities improve their digital literacy, as well as encourage digitalization in Islamic boarding schools. Currently, XL Axiata is targeting Islamic boarding schools to accept digital literacy programs so that they can become digital economy drivers in remote areas."
According to Sofia, Islamic boarding schools and the community must adapt to the widespread adoption of digital technology in a variety of spheres, including the economic and social sectors, as well as public services. Rural areas, among others, will benefit from increased digital literacy since they will be able to use it to boost productivity and access to public services such as education, health, and social services. As part of XL Axiata's commitment to preparing rural areas for the digital era, laptops and XL Axiata internet access facilities were delivered to a variety of rural communities.
The Tahfidz Qur'an Al-Muqqodam Islamic Boarding School is an Islamic boarding school that welcomes laptop contributions. The Islamic Boarding School is located in Krajan II Hamlet RT 04/02, Telukambulu Village, Kec. Batujaya, Kab. Karawang, West Java, and was founded in 2009. At least 110 pupils attend the Islamic boarding school run by H. Haykal Ridha, who also serves as the head of the foundation. The empowerment program towards rural community held in this Islamic boarding school, one of those are, Cooperation in the field of baitul maal muamalat as a means of amil zakat involving residents around the lodge is one of the village community empowerment programs carried out at this Islamic boarding shcool, as is routinely conducting Islamic studies with the guardians of students and local residents every day at 16.00 - 17.00 WIB.
Not only laptop, XL Axiata also distributes routers and free internet connection of 20GB per month for a year to recipients of donations in addition to laptops. They will also be given advanced training in a variety of digital skills, such as how to use social media for product promotion, photography, and creating effective digital content. XL Axiata partnered with Benihbaik.com to distribute this donation last year.
In the larger scope, XL Axiata also nationally donated more than 50 laptops to dozens of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, including West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Sumatra, Gorontalo, and West Nusa Tenggara. It doesn’t stop from that, After Ramadan, laptop donations to Islamic boarding schools will continue to be conducted to other Islamic boarding schools located around the islands of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi.
The Nusantara Laut application has been implemented for fishing villages in various provinces as part of XL Axiata's digital literacy enhancement program for rural areas. Moreover, numerous trainings on the use of digital technology have been conducted through the Sisternet initiative to boost the productivity of rural communities at USO network locations and fishing villages. Women in charge of UMKM are also taught digital literacy. Meanwhile, XL Axiata's Quota Donation Movement gives internet and data connection to rural communities in need of assistance to boost productivity.
Food Package Donation
XL Axiata's management and employees gave 500 food packages to Islamic boarding schools in numerous Indonesian cities to coincide with their Safari Ramadan activity. They distributed 125 kits specifically for Karawang, West Java. The provision of essential food packages is part of XL Axiata's ongoing relationship-building activities with the residents of Karawang and West Java in general.
