A Private Network offers highly reliable and secure connectivity, making it suitable for the Mineral and Oil and Gas Mining Industry. Companies in these sectors are required to increase productivity and cost efficiency by utilizing operational technology and IoT solutions including asset surveillance, situational awareness monitoring, and network optimization for hybrid communication needs (both private and public).

JAKARTA, JUNE 29, 2024. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata), through XL Axiata Business Solutions (XLABS), is dedicated to advancing digitalization in the Mineral Mining and Oil and Gas sectors. To achieve this, XLABS consistently introduces solutions that optimize Operational Technology via Private Networks and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to industry players. These digital solutions are well-suited for the Mineral and Oil and Gas Mining Industry, where companies aim to enhance productivity through automation, while also increasing cost efficiency and operational safety.

Feby Sallyanto, XL Axiata's Chief Enterprise Business Officer, stated, "The Mineral and Oil and Gas Mining Industry is a key focus for XLABS in promoting the application of digitalization services. Our offerings are currently being utilized by several major mining companies, including PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. and PT Pamapersada Nusantara. Our capability to provide high-quality infrastructure, technology, and human resources for the digitalization of the mining and oil and gas sectors will significantly improve the performance of industry players. This support aligns with XL Axiata's vision to become Indonesia's leading convergence operator and a trusted ICT service provider for both corporations and the public, consistently delivering convenience for customers and #jadilebihbaik."

Feby added, a Private Network offers connectivity with unique characteristics not found in general network infrastructure, providing high reliability and security. This network delivers high speeds and is suitable for applications requiring low latency. Private Network particularly well-suited for the mining and oil and gas industries, where companies need to boost productivity and cost efficiency through operational technology and industrial IoT solutions, including asset surveillance, situational awareness monitoring, and network optimization for hybrid (private and public) communication needs. Moreover, it enhances workplace safety by allowing employees to avoid dangerous areas.

The implementation of a private network can be optimized to utilize operational technology and industrial IoT in the following ways:

  • Improve field communication quality, leading to better and faster situational awareness
  • Support mission-critical communication to accelerate response and decision-making
  • Employ predictive analytics to extend asset life span through IoT sensors and predictive maintenance, preventing early disasters
  • Implement protective equipment operation technology to enhance work safety
  • Use drones for monitoring hazardous areas, thereby improving employee safety
  • Apply autonomous vehicle technology to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs

Supported by Huawei Indonesia, XLABS demonstrated its commitment to serving the oil and gas sector by participating in the Information Technology (IT) Working Meeting of the Oil and Gas Special Task Force (SKK) in Bali from June 12-14, 2024. During this event, XLABS introduced its digitalization services for the mining and oil and gas industries. This event was attended by stakeholders from the Oil and Gas Industry, including regulators and representatives from IT and digitalization service providers, such as XLABS.

This year's working meeting focused on the theme "Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Securing Vital Information Infrastructure to Support the Achievement of Upstream Oil and Gas Targets." According to skkmigas.go.id website, SKK Migas views the use of information technology in the upstream oil and gas industry continues to grow rapidly. Several KKKS (Cooperation Contract Contractors) have implemented AI and Operational Technology (OT), which have proven to be highly beneficial in various aspects, such as increasing the potential for new reserves, preventing Lost Production Opportunity (LPO), and enhancing Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards.

In this digital era, securing critical information infrastructure is crucial. Cyber attacks that could disrupt upstream oil and gas operations must be anticipated with strong security systems. All facilities and data managed are vital national assets, making it essential to continually strengthen information technology security. At this event, SKK Migas introduced two IT-related work programs: the development of an online Plan of Development (POD) System and an online Work, Program & Budget (WP&B) System.

The 2024 IT Working Meeting serves as a significant opportunity for the Indonesian upstream oil and gas industry to innovate and leverage information technology to achieve shared goals. With close collaboration between SKK Migas, KKKS, and technology service providers, it is anticipated that Indonesia's upstream oil and gas sector will advance further and deliver maximum benefits to the nation.
