XL Axiata Strengthened 4G Network to Support the Success of PON XXI 2024 in Aceh and North Sumatra

MEDAN, AUGUST 30, 2024. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) has set up a high-quality network to ensure the success of the National Sports Week (PON) XXI 2024, which will take place in Aceh and North Sumatra from September 9 to 20, 2024. Among the key venues anticipated to attract large crowds is the Harapan Bangsa Stadium in Banda Aceh, where the opening ceremony will take place on Monday, September 9, 2024. To accommodate the high demand at these event locations, with expected traffic surpassing 90% capacity, additional radio resources will be deployed to ensure customer satisfaction. #AdaUntukIndonesia

 

Desy Sari Dewi, Group Head of XL Axiata's West Region, stated, "XL Axiata is dedicated to maintaining the excellence of our 4G network to facilitate the smooth running and success of PON XXI 2024 in Aceh and North Sumatra. We are also making specific enhancements by adding 1 mobile base transceiver station (MBTS) at Harapan Bangsa Stadium, Aceh, to improve network performance during the event. Additionally, in North Sumatra, there will be 3 MBTSs located at Sumut Sport Center, Balige, and another MBTS at Pantai Cermin, Serdang Bedagai Regency."

 

Desy emphasized that XL Axiata's 4G network presence at PON XXI 2024 highlights XL Axiata's commitment to contributing to the success of this major sporting event held every four years in Indonesia. For XL Axiata, participating in the success of a major national event is a matter of great pride and a demonstration of its commitment to enhancing convenience and #jadilebihbaik. Preparations have been carried out, including assessments of network conditions at all PON XXI sites in Aceh and North Sumatra. This includes firsthand evaluations from event venues and capacity planning to address anticipated traffic spikes with necessary upgrades.

 

On-site preparations are now complete, encompassing both capacity expansions and data service network optimization at various PON XXI 2024 event locations. In Aceh, these efforts cover areas such as Great Aceh Regency, Central Aceh Regency, Southeast Aceh Regency, East Aceh Regency, North Aceh Regency, Banda Aceh City, Sabang City, Pidie Regency, and Lhokseumawe City, with key venues including West Aceh Sports Hall, Archery Complex SHB, IDI Sport Center, Blangpaseh Field, KONI Sports Hall Aceh, USK Sport Center, and other locations throughout Aceh Province.

 

In North Sumatra, preparations are in place in Medan City, Deli Serdang Regency, Karo Regency, Langkat Regency, Serdang Bedagai Regency, Simalungun Regency, Binjai City, and Toba Samosir Regency, including venues such as GOR Lubuk Pakam, Selayang Swimming Pool Disporasu, Pematangsiantar Sports Hall, Lake Toba, UNIMED Multipurpose Building, PBSI Disporasu Building, Pardede Hall, and other locations in North Sumatra Province.

 

 

The regions with the highest traffic in Aceh and North Sumatra are the Great Aceh Regency and Bireuen Regency in Aceh, while in North Sumatra, Deli Serdang Regency and Medan City experience the most traffic, with several key venues located there. XL Axiata has ensured strong network coverage at all sports facilities.

 

Currently, XL Axiata’s 4G network covers 206 districts in Aceh Province and 340 districts in North Sumatra Province. There are more than 2,500 BTSs in Aceh Province and over 9,500 BTSs in North Sumatra Province, the majority of which are 4G BTSs. To enhance capacity and address anticipated demands, XL Axiata is optimizing network performance, taking into account potential mobility of the public or customers traveling between Aceh and North Sumatra.

 

XL Axiata continues to build its network in various regions of Aceh and North Sumatra, including Aceh Tamiang Regency, North Aceh Regency, Medan City, Deli Serdang Regency, Toba Samosir Regency, Langkat Regency, Padang Lawas Regency, Labuhan Batu Regency, Samosir Regency, and North Tapanuli Regency. Currently, XL Axiata's network in Sumatra is supported by over 38,000 BTSs, the majority of which are 4G. The 4G network is continuously expanded, and XL Axiata continues to invest in fiber networks, transmission, backhaul, network modernization, and various other network upgrades to enhance stability, network capacity, and service quality in line with the growing data service traffic.
