Jakarta, July 2 2022. XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) has distributed dozens of laptop units to Islamic boarding schools in several areas in Indonesia. This donation is part of the “Desa Digital Nusantara” Program held by XL Axiata to encourage digitization in the rural areas. The Islamic boarding schools that receive donations are expected to be the driving force for digitization in question, as well as improving the quality of human resources among Islamic boarding schools. There are 39 Islamic boarding schools in 29 cities/regencies and 7 provinces that have received donations that have been distributed since April 2022.
This program also demonstrates the provision of the fastest internet services of XL Axiata for the customers and the public. "XL Axiata Exists for Indonesia”.
Group Head Corporate Communications of XL Axiata, Tri Wahyuningsih said, "In total we have distributed 80 units of laptops along with internet access devices in the form of routers, plus a data quota of 20GB per month for one year, to 39 Islamic boarding schools in 29 cities/regencies spread across 7 provinces. They will also receive advanced programs in the form of training in a number of digital skills, including how to use social media for product promotion, photography, and create effective digital content.
Ayu added, as XL Axiata's 4G data network infrastructure continues to expand throughout Indonesia, some of which also reach rural areas, XL Axiata management hopes to be able to participate in supporting rural communities to adapt to digitization in various fields, especially the productive and social economic sector. Therefore, XL Axiata hopes that through this donation of laptops and internet access, it can encourage the improvement of digital literacy in rural communities.
According to Ayu, Islamic boarding schools were chosen as partners to receive donations with consideration of their existence in the midst of rural communities. The culture of Islamic boarding schools is very closely related to the lives of rural communities, because both students and teachers usually also come from rural communities. In addition, Islamic boarding schools that receive laptop donations are also committed to being a companion for the village community around the cottage to adopt digital technology for various productive needs.
“In our calculations, there are around 50 thousand people who will directly or indirectly receive the benefits. They consist of caregivers and students of Islamic boarding schools receiving donations, as well as rural communities involved in the digitization program through their respective Islamic boarding schools. Most of it is used for the development of the digital skills of the students, such as training on web creation, video editing, and the implementation of other digital content," Ayu added.
The provinces where the laptop donations are distributed are North Sumatra, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi. Meanwhile, the 29 cities/regencies where the recipient boarding schools are located are Medan, Binjai, Langkat, Deli Serdang, Tangerang, Karawang, Sukabumi, Banjar Regency, Cimahi, Purwakarta, Tasikmalaya, Brebes, Banyumas, Semarang, Klaten, Surabaya, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Malang, Jombang, Lamongan, Magetan, Jember, Sidoarjo, Mojokerto, Kediri, Banyuwangi, Makassar, and Bantaeng.
To date, the XL Axiata network is spread across 34 provinces. Some of the networks have penetrated and served people in remote areas and are located on national borders. A total of more than 133 thousand BTS, of which 83 thousand 4G BTS, and a fiber optic network of more than 113,000 kilometers, support the strength of XL Axiata's network, to serve around 57 million customers in various regions in Indonesia.
