Langkat, August 4th, 2020. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) steps in to support providing and facilitating internet access for students who are attending long-distanced learning (PJJ). The support program provides internet access facilities in the form of routers that students can use together up to 32 devices at the same time. Starting Monday (3/8), Students of Telaga Said village, the Sei Lepan subdistrict, Langkat regency of North Sumatra are able to take advantage of this support program for free. XL Axiata Greater Medan Head of Sales, Horas Lubis, and Binjai - Langkat Territory Sales Manager, Maf'ul Taufiq directly monitors the installation of the facility.
Group Head of XL Axiata West Region, Desy Sari Dewi, said, "We cannot stay quiet reading news about the large number of students in various regions who have difficulty getting internet access to join PJJ. The problems they face are in the form of limited networks in the villages where they live and also concerning the price of data quotas. For that reason, we attempt to support both through this program. Hopefully, this facility can be used to its full potential for PJJ by students in all villages."
The router is placed at a hall that can accommodate dozens of children to learn. This hall is located in a high location, similar to a hill, and from this location, the XL Axiata signal can be picked up with good quality. XL Axiata technicians also have assisted the installation of this device in order to get maximum signal quality.
This router facility from XL Axiata is equipped with a 20GB data package for every month for free for 1 year. In addition, XL Axiata also distributed school equipment such as notebooks, rulers, pencils, pens, and plastic folders. To maintain and ensure that these routers are used as appropriate, XL Axiata submits its management to the Islamic Education Development Foundation.
Telaga Said village is located around 73 km or requiring 2.5 hours by road from Medan, North Sumatera. There are hundreds of school students in the village, from elementary, junior high to high school levels. In addition, there are also a number of teenagers who study at several universities. Since the Covid-19 pandemic has taken place, school children have had to learn from home by accessing learning material online. However, the internet network has not yet reached every corner of the village, many of these children then look for a particular location where it can get a better internet signal.
"Prior to the pandemic, we routinely distributed quota donations to schools through the Quota Donation Movement (GDK) program. Now, because schools are still closed and the increasing need to support online learning processes in various regions, we will try to support facilitating internet access for PJJ like this," Desy adds.
