Jakarta, 27 November 2022. The massive growth and development of digital technology make changes in various areas of life seem increasingly felt. The convenience and efficiency offered make the development of digital technology increasingly massive, which is adapted to the needs of the market and society. With the increasing need for the use of digital technology in everyday life, it creates new challenges for young people to be able to help develop it. To support this, XL Axiata Future Leaders (XLFL) can facilitate the younger generation by providing IoT training that has been integrated into the XLFL curriculum.
As an annual event, XL Axiata again held a National Conference. A total of 138 awardee students who have completed the XL Axiata Future Leaders (XLFL) Batch 9 program for two full years will graduate. They come from 52 campuses located in 6 provinces, such as the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Brawijaya University (UB), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), and so on.
The graduation ceremony will be conducted by the President Director & CEO of XL Axiata, Dian Siswarini representing the management of XL Axiata. In addition, the Expert Staff of the Minister of Education and Technology for Institutional and Community Relations, Prof. Dr. H. Muhammad Adlin Sila, M.A., PhD, CEO & CoFounder of Kata.ai, Irzan Raditya, Manager Connectivity Program – Meta APAC, Vinod Samarawickrama and Head of Permanent Committee for Tech and Informatics KADIN, Noudhy Valdryno also attended the event.
In the event held at the XL Axiata Tower on Friday-Sunday, November 25-27 2022, awardees will present digital solutions based on a combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) which are prepared as use cases in the upcoming era of 5G. This AIoT Project Exhibition is part of the awardee's graduation requirements.
XL Axiata's President Director & CEO, Dian Siswarini, said, "The task of making AI and IoT-based projects is given to XLFL awardees as a response to the massive technological advances. XL Axiata hopes that this program can shape the ability of awardees to systematize problem-solving that is generally owned by humans into a model that can be implemented by computers that implement data-based decision-making without human intervention.”
Dian added, this year 'AI' technology was also included in the projects that XLFL students had to make. The addition of this AI element is motivated by the challenges of telecommunication operators in facing the 5G era. In addition, there is a need for industry in terms of data-based decision-making without human intervention. Furthermore, AI-based innovative products are expected to become a trend in the future.
It is important for the young generation to understand and master digital competencies, and XLFL participants are also required to be able to understand and master these digital developments.
AIoT Project Exhibition
In the exhibition, there were a total of 16 AIoT projects displayed where the works were ideas produced and developed by XL Axiata Future Leaders (XLFL) awardees based on their market research. During the project development process, each group will receive assistance from XL Axiata's IoT Lab, namely XCamp through the AI Maker Development Program. The assistance provided includes the introduction of IoT and AI, Business Model Development, to the development of product prototypes.
These dozens of projects focus on addressing digitization needs in 6 sectors, namely agriculture, smart cities, manufacturing, agriculture and fisheries, utilities and energy, and health. The existence of digitization penetration that has not been maximized in this sector has opened up opportunities for the creation of automation products to facilitate work processes and have great business potential. In addition, the six sectors also have great opportunities and high absorption capabilities to adapt to AI and IoT technologies.
All student-made AIoT products will be judged directly by the judges. They are I Gede Darmayusa as Director & Chief Technology Officer of XL Axiata, Vinod Samarawickrama as Manager of Connectivity Program–Meta APAC, and Noudhy Valdryno as Head of Permanent Committee for Tech and Informatics of KADIN.
The judges' assessment will produce the best five projects from 4 categories. The four are Most Innovative, Most Applicative, Most Marketable, and Most Favorite. The winners will receive prizes in the form of funds.
In addition, XL Axiata also opens opportunities for the 5 best projects to become XL Axiata's business partners in developing AIoT products to meet market needs. And as a form of sustainability, it is possible for XL Axiata to continue developing these ideas through XCamp to be able to meet market needs from various business sectors that will be monetized by the XL Axiata Business Solutions team.
