The perpetrator took advantage of their role as a vendor technician for XL SATU STB installation to illegally remove devices from customers' homes. Knowing exactly where the devices XL SATU/ XL HOME STB had been installed, the suspect gathered the stolen equipment at their residence and sold them through e-commerce platforms.

YOGYAKARTA, OCTOBER 4, 2024. The Yogyakarta Regional Police (Polda) successfully apprehended an individual involved in stealing and handling XL SATU Set Top Boxes (STB) in Bantul Regency on July 11, 2024. During the operation, police secured the suspect, Agung Rejeki bin Subarjo (34 years old), a resident of Bantul Regency. From the suspect, they confiscated several pieces of evidence, including 27 XL SATU STB devices belonging to PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata).

Head of Unit I of the Polda DIY Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Irvan Andhi Prasetya, S.H., M.I.P., stated, "From the initial examination we conducted, we can ascertain the modus operandi of fraud, theft, embezzlement in office, and trading conducted by the suspect. The suspect took advantage of his status as a vendor technician for the installation of XL SATU STB devices to illegally remove these devices from customers' homes, as he was well aware of where the customers lived who had previously had XL SATU/XL HOME STB devices installed by him."

According to Irvan, the suspect illegally removed the STB devices himself. He then collected these devices at his home and sold them through an e-commerce platform. As a result of these criminal activities, XL SATU customers faced losses as they were unable to access the subscription TV services provided through the STB.

AKBP I Wayan Artha Wirawan, SK.M., M.M., from the Violent Crime Subdivision of the Polda DIY, stated that the police are continuing their investigation to obtain more comprehensive information, including determining whether the suspect is part of a larger syndicate and if similar incidents have occurred in other regions. Additionally, the DIY Police encourage anyone who knows of or suspects similar thefts, fraud, or embezzlement to report it to the nearest police station. They also advise the public not to purchase XL SATU/XL HOME products through illegal means.
