Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr Holidays 2025 Controlled Secure Network, Increased Data Traffic The Highest Traffic Increase of 44% in Central Java

The pattern usage of various types of data services by XL Axiata customers during the Ramadan and Eid holidays illustrates the increasing maximization of Indonesian society in utilizing digital means for various daily needs. During the Ramadan and Eid period, service traffic was dominated by streaming with a 17% increase in traffic, followed by file access which increased by 16%, web browsing which increased by 12%, and gaming which increased by 46%.

JAKARTA, APRIL 9, 2025. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) recorded an increase in data usage traffic throughout the Ramadan holiday and Eid al-Fitr 1446 H period, from March 28 to April 6, 2025. Data from the Customer Experience & Service Operation Center located in XL Axiata Tower, Jakarta, shows an increase in data service traffic of 5% compared to the previous year’s Ramadan and Eid period, and 21% compared to normal days before Ramadan. The surge in traffic is closely linked to the public’s enthusiasm for traveling back to their hometowns and vacationing to celebrate Eid.

 

Director & Chief Technology Officer of XL Axiata, I Gede Darmayusa, stated, “We are grateful to be able to provide optimal service quality to our customers during this year’s long Eid holiday. Preparations have been made well in advance, covering all aspects of the network and the necessary anticipatory measures. The entire network team, both at the center and those deployed in the field, are also on full alert during this crucial period to ensure services continue to run smoothly without any disruptions. As we anticipated earlier, there was a significant surge in data traffic during the holiday period, especially for accessing video streaming services through social media. This reflects the high spirit of the community in sharing moments of happiness during Eid. In addition, the dynamic movement of people from one region to another was also recorded through our data. Overall, data traffic recorded an increase of more than 21% compared to regular days.”

 

Gede added that the pattern of using various types of data services by XL Axiata customers during the Eid holiday reflects the increasing optimization of Indonesian society in utilizing digital means for various daily needs. During the Ramadan and Eid period, service traffic was dominated by streaming, which increased by 17%, followed by file access, which increased by 16%, then web browsing, which increased by 12%, and gaming, which increased by 46%.

 

In this streaming service, several applications experienced a significant increase in usage traffic, such as game-based services which saw an average traffic increase of up to 46%, YouTube up by 9%, TikTok by 18%, and Netflix by 10%. For Instant Messenger services, the usage traffic of WhatsApp increased by 14%. Meanwhile, on Social Network services, Instagram traffic increased by 26%, X traffic increased by 23%, and Meta (Facebook) by 4%.

 

Meanwhile, web browsing increased by 12% and online shopping through e-commerce rose by 19%. For map services or route navigation like Google Maps and Waze, there was a significant increase in usage among people traveling, rising by about 19% compared to normal days.

 

Nationally, the airports and ports that experienced a very significant increase are Soekarno Hatta International Airport by 167% and Merak Dock Port by 156%.

 

Looking at the regions of increased service traffic nationally during Ramadan and Eid compared to the usual daily traffic, it occurred consecutively in:

  1. Central Java Province, with an increase of 44%
  2. DIY Province, with an increase of 25%
  3. West Java Province, with an increase of 20%
  4. East Java Province, with an increase of 28%
  5. Banten Province, with an increase of 10%
  6. West Nusa Tenggara Province, with an increase of 29%
  7. Lampung Province, with an increase of 29%
  8. West Sumatra Province, with an increase of 23%
  9. North Sumatra Province, with an increase of 23%
  10. Aceh Province, with an increase of 23%

 

At the city/regency level across Indonesia, the highest traffic increase occurred in:

  1. City/Regency of Banyuwangi, East Java Province, increased by 74%
  2. City/Regency of Pandeglang, West Java Province, increased by 63%
  3. City/Regency of Central Hulu Sungai, South Kalimantan Province, increased by 62%
  4. City/Regency of Bangkalan, Madura, East Java Province, increased by 52%
  5. City/Regency of Sampang Madura, East Java Province, increased by 51%
  6. City/Regency of Garut, West Java Province, increased by 49%
  7. City/Regency of Lebak, Banten Province, increased by 46%
  8. City/Regency of Cirebon, West Java Province, increased by 42%
  9. City/Regency of Sukabumi, West Java Province, increased by 38%
  10. City/Regency of Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province, increased by 36%

 

For service traffic in Jabodetabek, service traffic continues to experience an increase during Eid compared to regular days, rising by up to 18%. This year's traffic is slightly different from previous years, which always experienced a decline, possibly due to the different level of customer relocation compared to previous Eid periods. XL Axiata's monitoring data recorded a customer migration rate from the Jabodetabek area to other provinces, which is around 27%.

 

The increase in data traffic also occurred in the XL SATU convergence service during this Eid holiday period compared to regular days, there are still customers who do not go home. The service most accessed by XL SATU customers is:

  1. Instagram services increased by 18.8%
  2. YouTube service increased by 21%
  3. Tik Tok service increased by 7%
  4. YouTube service increased by 21%

 

As for the Netflix and Vidio services, although they are widely accessed, they have experienced a decline of 2% and 21%, respectively. Currently, the total number of XL SATU customers has reached more than one million home connect.

 

Overall, to ensure the network's readiness to meet customer needs during this year's Eid period, XL Axiata has increased the network capacity to twice that of normal days. Network monitoring procedures are carried out as much as possible, including deploying hundreds of mobile BTS to strengthen network quality in locations that need support.

 

Currently, XL Axiata serves more than 58.8 million. The XL Axiata network is supported by more than 165 thousand BTS, including 111 thousand 4G BTS. The backbone network spans more than 190 thousand km, covering most provinces. For fixed mobile convergence (FMC) services, it reaches 127 cities/regencies and will continue to expand. XL Axiata is also continuously investing in fiber networks, transmission, backhaul, network modernization, and various other network upgrades to improve network stability, capacity, and data service quality in line with the increasing data service traffic.
