Barcelona, Maret 2nd 2024. Huawei, and XL Axiata Indonesia, along with several CSP partners recently won the Outstanding Catalyst Contribution to TM Forum Assets Award for their catalyst project "Intelligence and Value Driven Digital Operation Transformation for Network." The award was presented by W. George Glass, CTO of TM Forum, during MWC 24 Barcelona, in recognition of their significant contributions to the asset value of TM Forum.
The catalyst project leverages several capabilities from Huawei Intelligent Operations solution, such as the Value Operations Framework (VOF), Expected Demand Not Served (EDNS) algorithm, intelligent Event Management (iEM) platform, and Digital Twin Network (DTN) technology. These capabilities enhance the accuracy of service impact analysis and boost O&M efficiency, thereby transforming the O&M mode for wireless networks.
I Gede Darmayusa, Chief Technology Officer of XL Axiata, stated, “Receiving this award as a result of our collaboration with Huawei is certainly an important milestone for XL Axiata because it is part of a strategic initiative that continues to be carried out to increase the company's competitiveness by implementing digital transformation. For us, digital transformation is very important as it enables us to operate more efficiently, faster, adaptively, and innovatively in facing industrial dynamics. We can also better empower our teams to focus on strategic initiatives, problem solving and value-added activities.”
Huawei's President of ICT Assurance and Operation Services Domain, Lu Yu, stated that winning the TM Forum award acknowledges Huawei and CSPs' contributions to industry standards. It also demonstrates Huawei's ongoing commitment to investing in digital operations transformation and industry standardization. Huawei's Intelligent Operations team will continue to accelerate CSPs' digital transformation from network-centric operations to a service-centric approach, helping global CSPs improve business outcomes.
Wireless traffic loss reduction is a key part of the solution. EDNS measures the impact of network problems on users and services and supports closed-loop improvements. When a fault occurs, the EDNS algorithm automatically calculates the traffic loss and number of customers that are impacted based on multi-dimensional data within the fault area. Based on this service impact analysis, the EDNS identifies neighboring cells that meet the requirements and adjusts the relevant cell and antenna configuration parameters to resume coverage and service availability. The service impact analysis can identify supposedly minor alarms which were not thought to be critical, but which are in fact contributing to service loss. System then adjusts the handling priority based on the service impact SLA.
To realize the service capability roadmap in accelerating AO journey, the Catalyst team has implemented POC to validate value and achieve consistent business outcomes. AI technologies, such as the spatiotemporal clustering algorithm, graph neural network, and adaptive spatiotemporal entropy frequent item mining algorithm, are introduced to greatly improve network O&M efficiency. Network cross-domain demarcation accuracy have been improved from 50% to 93.4%, and network alarm correlation coverage have been improved from 60% to 97.1%. The data traffic loss is reduced by 15.09% and the impact on user access is reduced by 14.59% in the entire verification period adopting EDNS approach.
The project team actively contributed more than 30 standard proposals across various TM Forum working groups, including AI Closed-loop Automation (AICLA), Measuring and Managing Autonomy (MAMA), Open Digital Architecture (ODA), and TechCo Organizational Design (TCOD). These standards address a range of topics, including defining EDNS metrics for measuring O&M quality and CSPs' practices. They also cover O&M service processes, scenarios, and functional technical requirements that focus on event management, as well as the VOF for measuring the business value of operations, and a talent skill transformation framework. By providing industry-proven references, these standards are valuable for implementing digital transformation and autonomous operations.
This TM Forum award recognizes Huawei and CSPs' contributions to industry standards and demonstrates Huawei's ongoing commitment to investing in digital operations transformation and industry standardization. Huawei's Intelligent Operations team will continue to accelerate CSPs' digital transformation from network-centric operations to a service-centric approach, helping global CSPs improve business outcomes.
