MAKASSAR, MAY 13, 2024. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) appreciates the success of the Makassar Police in arresting the suspected individuals involved in the theft at XL Axiata's Makassar data center. During the operation on April 2, 2024, law enforcement arrested two individuals believed to be directly involved in the theft and three suspected accomplices. Evidence seized from the suspects included 36 QSFP (Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable) devices. A total of five suspects are implicated in this case. XL Axiata maintains its steadfast commitment to combating telecommunications equipment theft, prioritizing uninterrupted service for customers.
Police Commissioner Devi Sujana S.H., S.Ik., M.H., Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit in Makassar Police, stated, "Upon receiving an official report of the theft of XL Axiata's telecommunications equipment in mid-March, we immediately assembled a special team. We conducted a thorough investigation at the XL Axiata Data Center in Makassar Industrial Area (KIMA), Makasar City. Our pursuit of the alleged perpetrators led to their arrest in early April 2024."
Police Commissioner Devi Sujana stated that following the arrests, his team initiated a thorough investigation into the suspects. Currently, the two individuals have been designated as suspects and may face charges under Article 362 of the Criminal Code for theft, carrying a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison, and Article 363 for aggravated theft, carrying a maximum sentence of 7 years.
The investigation into this case is ongoing to gather comprehensive information, including determining whether the suspects were part of a syndicate and if similar incidents occurred elsewhere. In the Makassar incident, the suspects were identified as employees of a partner company working on a project at the XL Axiata KIMA Makassar Data Center. Exploiting their positions and authority, the suspects executed the theft without raising suspicion from security officers. The theft of XL Axiata's telecommunications equipment occurred between March 15 and 17, with the most recent incident on April 1, 2024.
