XL Axiata Implements IoT Solutions for Maggot Farming at Pesantren in Lampung

XL Axiata provides various digital solution which can be utilized by Islamic Boarding School across Indonesia to help them #JadiLebihBaik (#BecomeBetter). The provision of these IoT solutions is also part of the implementation of projects developed through the IoT incubation program at XL Axiata’s XCamp Laboratory.

CENTRAL LAMPUNG, OCTOBER 15, 2024. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) is continuing to expand the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) based digital solutions among islamic boarding schools as a tangible expression of its digital pesantren program. Located at the Salafiyah Darussa’adah Islamic Boarding School in Central Lampung, Lampung, XL Axiata has introduced IoT solutions for maggot farming. The project was inaugurated by Desy Sari Dewi, Group Head of XL Axiata West Region, along with Sudahono, the District Head of Gunung Sugih, and KH. Hisyamudin, the caretaker of Salafiyah Darussa’adah, by Tuesday (15/10). 

 

Group Head XL Axiata West Region, Desy Sari Dewi stated, “Through the Digital Pesantren program, XL Axiata provides various digital solutions that can be utilized by pesantren managers across Indonesia. The provision of IoT solutions is also one of the implementations of numerous products resulting from the XCamp IoT Laboratory incubation program by XL Axiata”

 

IoT X-Maggot was chosen as it is well-suited for economic empowerment in the pesantren environment to help them #JadiLebihBaik (#BecomeBetter), as demonstrated at Salafiyah Darussa’adah in Lampung Tengah.

 

The IoT Maggot solution, developed by XCamp as XL Axiata's IoT solution development laboratory, includes several monitoring features as well as temperature and humidity controls at the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming site. BSF is a type of fly whose eggs develop into maggot larvae. The benefits of this IoT-based digital solution include increased maggot productivity, reduced operational costs, and providing data for Big Data and Artificial Intelligence purposes to facilitate planning, forecasting, and maintenance.

 

The caretaker of the boarding school Salafiyah Darussa’adah, KH. Hisyamudin said that they welcomed the Digital Pesantren program from XL Axiata, which aims to promote digital-based education in the pesantren he oversees. He is committed to maximizing the use of this program to enhance the digital technology skills of students and educators, integrated with maggot farming activities to promote economic empowerment within the school environment.

 

 

The Digital Pesantren Program in Lampung Tengah collaborates with the Benihbaik Foundation, Bloggercrony Community, and XL Axiata Taklim Council. Through this program, XL Axiata has conducted various digital training sessions to improve the skills of students in areas such as content creation, website design, IoT utilization, and cybersecurity for community advancement. Additionally, XL Axiata has provided router devices and free internet access through the Kuota Donation Movement to facilitate and support teaching and learning activities in several islamic boarding school in Central Lampung, including Salafiyah Darussa’adah, Bumi Sholawat Safinatun Najaa in Bumiratu Nuban, Minhadlul Ulum in Tegineneng, Tahfidzul Quran Barokatul Mina in Bandar Mataram, Luhur Al-Manshuriyah in Seputih Agung, and Miftahul Huda in Terbanggi Besar. Each school has received a total of 240 GB of internet data for one year through this program.

 

Previously, XL Axiata has also implemented IoT solutions for maggot farming and hydroponics in various islamic boarding school, including XMaggot and Hydroponix at Hidayatulloh in Depok, West Java, and Tholabie in Malang, East Java, as well as XMaggot at Al Idrisiyah in Tasikmalaya, West Java, KH. Mas Mansur MBS in Brebes, Central Java, Miftahul Ulum Sekar Anyar in Pamekasan, Madura, East Java, and Madrasatul Quran At Tauhid in Sidoarjo, East Java.

 

To support digital literacy needs for pesantren and surrounding communities, XL Axiata also provides training on utilizing AI (Artificial Intelligence) for digital marketing for students, management, and the staff. The literacy class materials are made and fitted to the needs of students and school management requiring this training to enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

 

Not only the company, but also XL Axiata employees are enthusiastic about supporting the Digital Pesantren program, with employees providing assistance in the form of zakat to students at the Salafiyah Darussa’adah pesantren, distributed with the support of the XL Axiata Taklim Council. 


Strengthening XL Axiata's Network in Lampung


In addition to supporting the Digital Pesantren program, XL Axiata is also strengthening its 4G network in Lampung Province, particularly around the school benefiting from this program. This enhancement ensures that students, educators, and the surrounding community can comfortably use XL Axiata services. Efforts to strengthen the network include optimization, fiber installation, coverage expansion, and increased capacity at strategic locations and popular tourist destinations.

 

Erry Prasetyo, Head of E2E XL Axiata Region Operation West, stated, “Network strengthening in Lampung is an ongoing effort throughout the year, considering the increasing service traffic. Over the past two years, traffic has risen by about 25%. Moreover, the growth in productive activities and digital literacy among the community has also contributed to the increased usage of XL Axiata services.”

 

The total number of XL Axiata’s 4G base transceiver stations (BTS) in Lampung, known as Sai Bumi Ruwa Jurai, continues to grow, reaching over 4,800 units, which serve the entire province. XL Axiata has more than 1.6 million customers across Lampung, including over 270,000 in Central Lampung.

 

XL Axiata’s network now covers over 2,515 villages in 223 districts, which is 98% of the total districts in the 15 regencies of Lampung Province. For areas that are currently underserved, analysis and planning are underway for the construction of 330 new sites. XL Axiata is also enhancing its network in Central Lampung, South Lampung, East Lampung, Bandar Lampung, North Lampung, and Way Kanan.

 

To ensure that the community and customers can easily access XL Axiata products, both XL and AXIS, there are over 5,000 partner retail outlets throughout Lampung. These stores are located even in rural areas served by XL Axiata. Through this distribution network, customers can also obtain information and submit complaints, which will be forwarded to XL Axiata’s customer service.

 

Currently, the regions with the highest data traffic include Central Lampung, South Lampung, and East Lampung, where many tourist destinations and local economic centers are located. The quality of XL Axiata’s internet services has reached various tourist attractions in Lampung, allowing customers to browse the internet and share their best moments while visiting the province.
