Serang, 2 March 2022. High-intensity rainfall and overflowing river flows caused catastrophic flooding at a number of points in the City and Regency of Serang, Banten Province, Tuesday (1/3). PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) ensures that telecommunications and data networks continue to operate normally. However, a small portion of XL Axiata's service areas had problems due to power outages. The XL Axiata team in the field immediately carried out recovery efforts shortly after the service was detected to be interrupted. The XL Axiata team continues to work as much as possible to keep the network usable by the public.
XL Axiata Group Head of Jabodetabek Region, Rd. Sofia Purbayanti, said, “The flood disaster that hit the City and Regency of Serang, Banten caused the electricity and road access was cut off in several areas. This has an impact on BTS operations in a small number of flood-affected areas, but overall, the XL Axiata network in the Serang area is still in a safe condition. We have prepared the anticipation, including ready for generators and network engineering.”
Sofia added that services to customers will continue to run normally because the XL Axiata network team has strengthened and engineered the network around the disaster site to ensure that the community can still communicate. According to her, in an emergency situation like currently occurred, it is very urgent to keep telecommunications and data services to operate, because they are the main means of communication for the community, the victims, as well as officials who handle disasters.
In the Serang City area, XL Axiata has more than 890 BTS, more than 400 of which are 4G LTE. Meanwhile in Serang Regency, there are more than 1,500 BTS, with more than 650 BTS of which 4G LTE. Throughout Banten Province, XL Axiata has a total of more than 11,100 BTS, with more than 5,100 BTS of which 4G LTE.
XL Axiata Employees Distribute Assistance
XL Axiata employees, through Majlis Ta'lim of XL Axiata (MTXL Axiata), distribute emergency aid for flood victims in Serang, Banten. The handing over of aid to victims at a number of flood locations in Sukajaya Village, Kasemen District, Serang City was carried out directly by XL Axiata Serang representatives on Tuesday and Wednesday, 1 and 2 March 2022.
Apart from being distributed directly, some of the aid was allocated to be distributed through the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Serang City, the aid has been handed over by Territory Sales of XL Axiata Serang area, IntanNursita to the representatives of BPBD Serang City, Satibi, SE on Wednesday (2/3). The assistance will be distributed by the Serang City BPBD to residents of flood victims whose location access is difficult to reach and can only be done using rubber boats.
Head of MTXL Axiata, YanuarTirtaKumaya said, “This assistance is part of the MTXL Axiata Disaster Response Rapid Action Program which aims to help Indonesian people who need assistance. This assistance is also a manifestation of the concern of XL Axiata employees to ease the burden on the Serang community who are facing a disaster. After all, XL Axiata has long been part of the Serang community, so we should help the residents. Hopefully this help can be useful.”
The emergency assistance from XL Axiata employees is in the form of ready-to-eat food and drinks and basic daily necessities. The procurement for this assistance was collected from employee donations managed by MTXL Axiata.
