XL Axiata Introduces SKKL BaSICS to Business Players in Batam and Pontianak
XL Axiata Business Solutions (XLABS) introduced Batam Sarawak International Cable System (BaSICS) Undersea Cable Communication System (SKKL) to businesses in Batam and Pontianak, West Kalimantan, recently. Attending the event were Chief Enterprise Business Officer of XL Axiata, Feby Sallyanto, Chief Corporate Affairs of XL Axiata, Marwan O. Baasir, Group Head Wholesale and Reseller of XL Axiata, Alwin Syahriadi, Executive Director of IRIX Sdn. Bhd, Sng Wei Kai and CEO of IRIX Sdn. Bhd, Jonathan Smith.
XL Axiata introduced the existence of BaSICS SKKL to business people in Batam and Pontianak. The existence of this SKKL is a solution from XL Axiata through XLABS as a trusted ICT service partner for businesses in both areas to be able to further develop their business, especially digital service-based businesses that require wider access and a new international network, which also has a number of advantages, which can be utilised directly by business actors in Riau Islands and West Kalimantan in particular and generally in Sumatra and Kalimantan.
BaSICS SKKL provides internet connection through SKKL between Sumatera - Batam - Kalimantan - Sulawesi with faster performancy and latency. This SKKL is also an alternative international gateway for the Indonesian internet network to connect directly overseas, namely to Kuching in Sarawak and Hong Kong. Apart from being safe from earthquake paths, this SKKL also adds to the diversity of alternative connections to several POP/HUBs in Asia, which will also support the need for a high-quality internet network for the National Capital City (IKN) in East Kalimantan.
The workshops and Innovation updates held in Batam and Pontianak were attended by ISPs and Digital Partners who need domestic and international networks. Some of the workshop materials presented were about infrastructure, capacity and network quality. New network connections for domestic and international, International POP Kuching and Hong Kong. Connections between the major Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan. Support for internet and digitisation businesses. Since the start of operation on 1 June 2022.
XL Axiata took a strategic step by building the BaSIC SKKL project by connecting Batam in Indonesia and Kuching in Malaysia which is then connected via land cable to Pontianak in West Kalimantan. In accordance with XL Axiata's commitment to provide infrastructure for better global internet access. Thus, the existence of this new submarine cable is also part of XL Axiata's efforts to support the government's vision in encouraging the utilisation of digital technology by the Indonesian people through a high-quality fast internet network.
Cable construction began in 2021, can be used on 1 June 2022 and is fully connected to Pontianak at the end of 2023. In its implementation, XL Axiata is working with a partner in Sarawak, Malaysia, PT Telecommunication Sdn Bhd (IRIX).
SKKL BaSIC stretches more than 700 kilometres. SKKL BaSIC will be enabled to reach a maximum capacity of 48 Tera. XL Axiata's management believes that this network with large capacity and relatively safe from earthquake paths will be commercially attractive in line with the rapid growth of data traffic today and in the future. The existence of SKKL BaSICS has a direct impact on the quality of internet services for customers and businesses.
