Jakarta, 5 June 2022. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) continues to strive to build a Fiber to the Home (FTTH) broadband network to provide super fast and stable home internet services in various provinces in Indonesia through its superior products XL HOME and XL SATU Fiber. In collaboration with Huawei Indonesia, XL Axiata became the first operator in Indonesia to implement an innovative technology called "AirPON". This solution was implemented at Vila Nusa Indah in Bogor and has shown to be one of the most cost-effective and time-efficient ways to enhance broadband connections while reducing FTTH network installation costs and time. In principle, XL Axiata will aim to deploy solutions and technologies that will help the convergence company expand its service penetration.
Director of Technology & Chief Technology Officer XL Axiata, I Gede Darmayusa said, "The implementation of this AirPON solution has proven to be able to support XL Axiata to continue to transform into a converged company with high-quality services. The results of trials in a limited area have shown satisfactory results. We believe that AirPON is one of the effective solutions that can help XL Axiata expand its broadband connection more quickly and efficiently.”
Gede explained that the construction of the FTTH network is a complex and challenging systematic project, similar to the one faced by XL Axiata. The limited number of equipment rooms and the long distance to the target users are one of the challenges in building a large-scale FTTH network that requires significant construction time and costs.
Thus, AirPON brings innovations that can simplify the installation and maintenance process thereby significantly shortening the FTTH network construction period and shortening time-to-market. In addition, this solution can reduce acquisition work and construction costs as one AirPON site can cover 1,000 home customers. In the future, XL Axiata will implement this advanced network development solution to increase the efficiency of broadband network deployment and reduce construction costs.
"We are glad to partner with XL Axiata to establish an Air PON network," Huawei Indonesia Chief Technology Officer Xing Yinghua stated. “Huawei is committed to being able to support building an advanced network that meets the requirements for future development. We will continue to provide innovative solutions to support XL Axiata is transforming into a convergence operator including supporting the development of national broadband in Indonesia.” He continued.
Currently, XL Axiata has XL Home coverage of more than 700 thousand home passes in several cities such as Greater Jakarta, Medan, Palembang, Bandung, Purwokerto, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Bali, Makassar, Balikpapan, Cirebon, Banjarmasin, and Banjarbaru.
