Jakarta, 28 September 2022. The soaring data traffic on the PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) network must be balanced with adequate network capacity to maintain high service standards and a seamless experience for users. In order to increase the network capacity, XL Axiata collaborated with Huawei to implement the latest technology "FDD Smart 8T8R". The results of a series of trials that have been carried out show an increase in network quality and capacity up to 2.9x. The application of this technology also implements green information and communication technology (ICT).
XL Axiata's Director of Technology & Chief Technology Officer, I Gede Darmayusa said, "Together with Huawei, we continue to explore and implement more technological breakthroughs to build high-quality networks. This FDD Smart 8T8R technology, in addition to increasing spectrum efficiency to achieve an increase in user throughput of up to 2.0x over 4T4R technology, can also help reduce power consumption by up to 26% and increase spectrum efficiency on the network, thereby helping to reduce network operational burdens.”
Weiwei, XL Account Director of Huawei Indonesia said: "We are pleased to work with XL Axiata to build the FDD Smart 8T8R network. Huawei is committed to being able to support building a sophisticated network that meets the requirements for future development. We will continue to provide innovative solutions to support XL Axiata is transforming into a convergence operator including supporting the development of national broadband in Indonesia.”
Currently, XL Axiata has implemented the FDD Smart 8T8R network in more than 700 4G BTS in various regions in Indonesia. The application of this technology will be carried out by focusing on areas with high traffic usage of data and internet services, such as in densely populated areas, offices, tourist attractions, to shopping centers. In addition, it is also very useful for maintaining the quality of services at transportation service centers such as airports, ports and terminals, or also at the venues for large events that have the potential for a traffic spike.
Until the end of semester 1 2022, XL Axiata's data traffic increased by 30% from the same period the previous year. This increase in traffic continues to increase in line with the increase in community mobility after the Covid-19 pandemic, including the permission for people to travel. Currently, the XL Axiata network is spread across all regions in Indonesia. Some of the networks have penetrated and served people in remote areas and are located on national borders. A total of more than 144 thousand BTS, of which more than 88 thousand 4G BTS, and a fiber optic network of more than 130 thousand kilometers, supporting the strength of XL Axiata's network, to serve around 57 million customers in various regions in Indonesia, with 4G penetration of approx. 90.9%.
