Jakarta, 31 March 2023. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) through XL Axiata Business Solutions continues to develop integrated ICT solutions for corporate customers which also have benefits for society. Currently, the solution that has been successfully developed is the Smart Water Meter, which is an Internet of Things (IoT) based solution that can accommodate business people from various segments. The NB-IoT Smart Water Meter is one of the latest IoT-based solutions from XL Axiata Business Solutions which is implemented together with PT Berkat Air Laut (BAL) to monitor the distribution of clean water for residents who live in the Gili Trawangan area and also Gili Meno, North Lombok.
XL Axiata's Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Feby Sallyanto said, "The NB-IoT Smart Water Meter will help PT BAL, which has been monitoring clean water manually by recording the distribution of clean water to homes. With NB-IoT technology, monitoring can be done in real-time, and efficiently. We know that Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno are tourism areas that are well known to foreign countries. Therefore, we hope that XL Axiata Business Solutions can become the preferred ICT Solutions provider capable of providing the best ICT solutions to support local tourism industry players.
Feby added that until now in Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno, it is still difficult to get a supply of clean fresh water. All of the wells there do not have fresh water, even the level of saltiness is the same as seawater. PT BAL is the only clean freshwater supply company there.
The Smart Water Meter with NB-IoT is in the form of a water meter tool in which there is an NB-IoT SIM card from XL Axiata to transmit the required data from the water meter to the server and dashboard operated by PT BAL. NB-IoT is part of a licensed Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technology that is specifically designed for IoT communications with a wider network coverage and battery life of up to 10 years.
The working mechanism of the NB-IoT Smart Water Meter is that clean water produced from the seawater desalination process and stored in a reservoir, then distributed to customers through the Smart Water Meter with the NB-IoT XL as a measuring and monitoring device for water use. Furthermore, PT BAL officers can turn off and turn on the water distribution by simply using an application on the dashboard, which was previously done manually by meter recorders who toured thousands of points.
Other benefits that can be obtained by PT BAL through implementing this solution include real-time monitoring of water usage, as well as transparent billing with more precise billing accuracy. This can make it easier for the bank to assess or calculate PT BAL's cash flow if there is a plan for the need for investment credit loans. In addition, maintenance costs are cheaper because it is easier and faster to detect leaks in water pipes or improper use.
