Lumajang, 6 December 2022. PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL Axiata) ensures that in general all of its telecommunication services are safe, not significantly affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru, Sunday (4/12). XL Axiata has around 12 BTS in a 20 km radius from the mountain, 3 BTS located in Tegalrejo Village, Ampelgading District, Bulurejo Village, Tempusari District, and Pronojiwo District, were temporarily cut off by an eruption accompanied by rain of ash and sand.

Regional Group Head of XL Axiata East Region, Dodik Ariyanto said, "The nearest XL Axiata BTS is about 10 km from the centre of the eruption. The eruption and rain of ash and sand were quite powerful and cut off the power supply to several BTS. Some other BTS could still light up because there was generator. We will try hard to maintain service in this disaster area because of course at this time telecommunication services are really needed by the affected community and officials who handle disaster victims."

As of 6 December 2022, XL Axiata network in Lumajang Regency, especially Pronojiwo District and Candipuro District, has returned to normal. Customers and the public now can get telecommunication and data access again. Along with the electricity supply starting to turn on again in several areas after the eruption, all the BTS that had been constrained could also operate again. XL Axiata has more than 103 BTS in Lumajang Regency, including at the disaster site.

XL Axiata's technical team in the field is currently monitoring and checking to ensure that the network and services continue to function optimally for the use of the public and customers.

Dodik added that the big family of XL Axiata is also concerned about the eruption of Mount Semeru, which had an impact on local residents. Along with checking the infrastructure at the disaster site, his party also identified emergency needs that could be delivered to the victims. Collaborate with local dealer partners and local authorities. Aid will focus on being distributed to areas that have experienced the heaviest impact, where thousands of residents have fled.
