Batam, 30 March 2023. PT XL Axiata tbk (XL Axiata) data services in Sumatra continue to experience growth. Currently, the number of customers in the Sumatra region reaches more than 21% of XL Axiata's total customers. Of this number, more than 93% of them are data subscribers with data traffic growth in the last 2 years throughout Sumatra increasing to 84%. Responding to this growth, XL Axiata continues to strengthen its data network in almost all regions of Sumatra, to areas that are considered remote areas, especially the 4G network. XL Axiata's total 4G network throughout Sumatra and the surrounding islands has reached more than 20,100 villages, 1,700 districts, and 150 cities/regencies.
Group Head of XL Axiata West Region, Desy Sari Dewi said, "The increasing demand from customers and the people of Sumatra for XL Axiata data services is very high and continues to increase. This occurs almost evenly in all provinces. In general, the level of digital literacy continues to increase, followed by an increased understanding of the positive benefits of data services and fast internet. Moreover, XL Axiata continues to offer more benefits for customers. Therefore, in the last two years, XL Axiata has consistently strengthened its data network to all provinces, including expanding to new areas, as well as improving network quality with fiberization and the application of new technologies."
Desy added the total BTS throughout Sumatra is more than 33,800 BTS, including more than 21,400 4G BTS. Currently, more than 63% in all of Sumatra has already been in fiberization. The construction of new networks and fiberization will continue throughout 2023 and in the years to come. In the last 2 years, the addition of 4G BTS by XL Axiata was more than 9,000 BTS spread throughout the Sumatra area, with the highest number of additions in Deli Serdang Regency, Medan City, Langkat Regency, East Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, Pekanbaru City, and South Lampung Regency adjusted to the high demand for data that continues to increase in the area.
Several provinces in Sumatra with the highest increase in data service usage traffic were Lampung Province, South Sumatra Province, West Sumatra Province, North Sumatra Province, and Riau Province.
Specifically for the Riau Islands Province (Kepri), XL Axiata has covered more than 90% of the area, covering more than 235 villages and 53 districts in 7 cities/regencies. Until the last two years, in the Riau Islands, XL Axiata's data traffic has increased by around 20% each year. Along with this increase, XL Axiata is improving network quality and expanding network coverage by adding in various new villages. Most of them are in Lingga and Natuna Regencies.
"XL Axiata customers will use a lot of data services, especially social media to share content. Customers also access more streaming services, be it videos, music or games, which require large capacity. Streaming includes Youtube, Vidio & Spotify, messaging applications are Whatsapp and game applications are Mobile Legend. Sumatra still has quite a large potential for XL Axiata, this can be seen from the growth in traffic and subscribers which are increasing from year to year," continued Desy.
XL Axiata Social Action for the Community
In this month of Ramadan, XL Axiata Peduli is holding two programs, namely ‘XL Axiata Peduli Paket Berbuka’, in the form of distributing iftar food packages for the underprivileged, with a coupon exchange system. This program works with the Benihbaik Foundation and local partners such as rice stalls and community residents who aim to help local MSMEs.
The second program is ‘XL Axiata Peduli Sembako’ for Islamic Boarding Schools, by buying from local MSMEs. The target recipients are Islamic boarding schools spread across Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Batam City, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, Makassar City, Surabaya City, Yogyakarta City, Bandung City, Jakarta City and Bogor Regency, West Java.
XL Axiata is committed to continuing to increase its contribution to society through beneficial and sustainable programs, one of which is through social sharing activities that have been carried out for years through company programs, including the ‘XL Axiata Baik’ Program. This program is implemented in different cities to help people in need. Through this program, XL Axiata employees do not only focus on work areas but can contribute more to the country. Management also wants to create a culture of employees caring for the surrounding environment and hopefully this good thing can inspire and create a domino effect for other good things that are useful.
The XL Axiata Baik program has been running since 2021, various program activities have been carried out to help communities in various regions, such as the Indonesia Bangkit Vaccination Center (SVIB), donations, blood donations, teaching employees, house renovations, building roads, building mosques, procuring water depots, building bridges to donating internet access and laptops for Islamic boarding schools and general schools.
In 2023, the XL Axiata Baik program has done several things, including in January 2023, watching XL Axiata employees together with orphans in Bogor, routine blood donation activities every 3 months by XL Axiata employees in Medan, blood collected will be donated to children with cancer. In March 2023, XL Axiata employees taught at Luwuk, a blood donation program by XL Axiata employees in Jakarta, and donations from XL Axiata West Region employees for orphanages in Batam.
XL Axiata also goes through the ‘XL Axiata Peduli’ program which is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program to help people who need assistance, such as the flood disaster in Lahat, West Lampung, Aceh, and send healthy food to stunting prevention programs in several villages across Indonesia.
