Traffic Potentially Increases During Ramadan and Eid XL Axiata Strengthened Network and Special Promotions

XL Axiata has taken a number of strategic steps to ensure the network remains optimal. Some of the main preparations that have been carried out include increasing capacity at more than 2000 BTS and deploying 120 MBTS. In addition, there has also been a 20% increase in core capacity and an increase in RAN capacity for more than 2000 Sites.

Director & Chief Technology Officer of XL Axiata, I Gede Darmayusa said, “In order to improve service quality to customers, especially Muslim customers, XL Axiata routinely makes full efforts every year during the month of Ramadan to strengthen the network and present special promotional packages. This program will then continue during the long Eid holidays, so that more customers and the community can benefit from it.”

 

According to Gede, for XL Axiata, the momentum of Ramadan and Eid is indeed highly anticipated because it is one of the main levers of the telco business. XL Axiata's traffic during Ramadan and the long Eid holiday is expected to surge by around 15% - 20%. This is both a blessing and a challenge, as it means XL Axiata must be able to maintain network quality throughout this special period.

 

To handle traffic surges and ensure customer comfort is maintained during fasting until Eid, XL Axiata has taken several strategic steps to ensure the network remains optimal. Several key preparations that have been made include increasing capacity at more than 2,000 BTS and deploying 120 MBTS to support needs during Ramadan and Eid.

 

In addition, XL Axiata has also increased core capacity by 20% and increased RAN capacity for more than 2,000 Sites. With the current average capacity utilization of 60%, XL Axiata predicts utilization during Ramadan and Lebaran will reach around 78%.

 

To ensure network readiness in the lead-up to the Ramadan to Eid period, XL Axiata has also implemented several innovations and advanced technologies, including network testing using a driverless method to identify areas that need optimization. In addition, an automatic warning system has also been prepared to monitor the decline in service experience and balance capacity during traffic spikes.

 

A number of steps to condition the network have been taken by the XL Axiata network team by adjusting to the trends in the use of various types of services, especially data services, the tradition of returning home, and customer movement during the long Eid holiday. The availability of new toll road infrastructure in several areas that can be utilized by the public during the Eid al-Fitr holiday is also a concern for XL Axiata.

 

XL Axiata has also deployed adequate resources, including standby technical teams that will monitor network conditions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as well as field teams ready to mobilize at any time if necessary. From the XL Axiata headquarters, network conditions across all operational areas are also monitored through the Customer Experience & Service Operation Center (CESOC) monitoring facility.

 

Currently, XL Axiata has more than 58.8 million customers, supported by more than 165 thousand BTS, with the majority being 4G BTS, as well as a fiber optic backbone network spanning more than 190 thousand km, supporting a data network spread across most of Indonesia's vast archipelago. The level of connectivity with the fiber optic network (fiberized) reached 63%. XL Axiata is also continuously investing in fiber networks, transmission, backhaul, network modernization, and various other network upgrades to enhance network stability, capacity, and data service quality in line with the increasing data service traffic and as preparation for the future implementation of 5G.

 

In addition, XL Axiata continues to strive to drive and strengthen its FMC service business. Currently, XL Axiata has expanded the coverage of its FMC service network to 127 cities/regencies, with a total of homes passed reaching more than 6 million.
